I have recently discovered the mysterious world of subscription boxes, there’s something about my personality that is super intrigued by them. Maybe it’s the little kid that still lives within me that loves getting surprises in the mail. This month I thought I would try several of them out.
Subscription Boxes for Moms and Kids
Now the cool thing about subscription boxes is there are many ways you can use them. Keep the items that you want/need or will bless your life, and gift the rest. In a previous post on time management, I suggested having gifts bought, wrapped and ready ahead of time so that you are not running to the store every time you need a gift for something. The subscription boxes with baby products make excellent and unique baby gifts. The boxes with kid’s products make excellent birthday gifts. The travel sized beauty products work great for vacations for times when you have guests staying at your house. The boxes with snacks and food make great neighbor gifts and college student gift .
I have a friend about to have a baby. I plan on giving her a “Snack Pack” gift basket since I know far too well that life with a new baby is time-consuming. Sometimes you have no time to eat or take care of yourself, and you just need a quick snack. I especially find this helpful for friends that are nursing. It’s nice to have a gift basket of snacks right next to the rocker, so that you don’t have to run to the fridge during a 3 AM feeding.
That being said, I will probably only sign up for one of these at a time so that I can learn which one will bless our family best. Here are the ones I got to sample this month:
JUNIPER BOX (Time-of-the-month)
Okay, this one might sound strange, but I started with this one because it was the one I was most amused by. A box of tampons, snacks, chocolate and pampering items that arrives in a special box just for you on your period? Time of stress is now = Time of Pampering! You even get a special “B.F.F.” whom you can email/call/text to let her know if your box needs some tweaking, or if you need to change what day it arrives on. Whaaat? Best. Box. Ever. Everything about this box made me smile. Okay, some may think it’s a little impractical, but I LOVED IT! And I thought the snacks were well picked. My only advice for the company: MORE CHOCOLATE. Right now if you put the code MOTHERSNICHE where it says “How did you hear about Juniper?” Lynn (owner) will hook you up with 50%off your first box! Yee Haw!
What I received:
479 Sea Salt Caramel organic heirloom popcorn (THESE were by far my favorite snack out of all snacks from all subscription boxes. And I love that it contains all healthy ingredients. And they are gluten-free. And so yummy. They’re in my Amazon cart as we speak)
Nunes Farms Roasted Salted Pistachios
Numi Teas in Toasted Rice, Moroccan Mint, and decaf Green Tea for some detox.
And then of course I also received the tampons and liners that I specified.
CITRUS LANE (Babies & Kids)
These boxes start at $21 and are so fun! I have been wanting to try this box out for a while, as I always see the ads on Facebook and they look so fun (I am however, overly obsessed with kid’s products. Maybe that will wear off a couple of kids down the road). For this box, you specify your kid’s age and they send monthly products specifically for their age group. I REALLY enjoy discovering new kid’s products so this was probably one of my favorite boxes to open. Use code TAKEHALF to get 50% off your first box!
Offer Terms: Only new, first-time Citrus Lane subscribers who start a monthly subscription are eligible to redeem this offer. Multi-month packages and gift subscriptions do not qualify. To redeem this offer you must enter code TAKEHALF at checkout.”
BabbaCo Subscription Boxes (Activities for kids age 3-7)
Another SUPER FUN one for kids. This one is a monthly box that comes with creative kid’s activities, books, crafts, etc. There are 3 different subscription plans. You can get the digital activities for $9.99, the BabbaBox for $15.99 (this is the one I sampled), or you can get the premium (more activities) for $29.99. My daughter is 21 months and not quite old enough for this, but she will be VERY SOON. I can’t wait.
Nature Box (healthy Snacks):
Healthy snacks are subscription boxes I am interested in because I live in a small town and we don’t have any health food stores. That being said, my sister and I BOTH sampled this box and we both liked the blueberry almonds and the corn sticks. We really didn’t like the waffle cookies. The other two were just okay. Our kids ate all of them. I’m probably going to give this box a second chance though, because you can start customizing your second box how you like. I’m really interested in seeing what their gluten-free box is like now that I can’t have gluten. Update on this one next month. Boxes are $19.95, Use code SNACKTIME to get 50% off your first box!
Sweet bluberry almonds
Cherry Berry Bonanza
Santa Fe Corn Stix
Cocoa Waffle Wafers
Goodies Co. (snacks and treats)
The cool thing about this company is they had the cheapest of the subscription boxes ($7). They also have a version for both adults and kids. I didn’t care a whole ton for the adult version, but I thought the kid’s version was pretty fun. I used the items in a gift pack that I gave to my 9-year old niece. She stayed at my house for a week while I was sick and helped me with my baby. She was THRILLED with her gift basket (I also threw in a few fun bracelets, coloring books, etc.)
Here’s the Kid’s Box (You can COLOR THE BOX! fun.):
Enjoy Life Chocolate Chip Cookie (okay, this one didn’t go in the package for my niece. I saw that it was gluten-free and gobbled it right up. Loved it)!
USE CODE MNKB to score a free kid’s box, or MNTB for an original Taster’s Box (must use it by Sept 1st)!
And here’s the Adult Box:
Healthy Surprise (Natural, Gluten-free, Vegan snacks)
Boxes start at $33. I was super excited for this box since I can no longer eat gluten. I was surprised how many snacks they fit in the box! That being said, half of the snacks I didn’t like. I am finding that a lot now that I am eating gluten-free. Some things are just hit or miss. I must also add that I am not used to eating “healthier” snacks, so that could be another reason I didn’t like the taste of half of them. I felt like they were all snacks my mom would appreciate. Since I am new to this gluten-free diet, I might do this box just so I can get introduced to a bunch of different products. After a couple of months I would probably re-evaluate to see if the cost is worth the products I am receiving. I just wish it were a little bit cheaper. Use Code: MOTHERSNICHE for $10 off your first box!
Here’s what I got:
Lydia’s Organics: Rawkin’ Beet Chips Spicy (didn’t try them)
Just Tomatoes (Did not like these)
GFreely (Gluten-free snacks)
For $25 you receive a box full of tasty gluten-free snacks! They also have gluten-free recipes and lifestyle tips on their website. This was a good box for me. As I said, I’m new to the gluten-free diet and on a desperate search for snacks that I can carry along in my purse for starving moments when I can no longer grab a quick burrito, or times when my friends are stuffing cupcakes, bread and cheetos down their throat (okay, my friends don’t actually do that). To get $5 off your monthly subscription, use code BLOGGF5
Here’s what I got:
a bag of Pretzel’s by the brand Pretzel Perfection
cereal by the brand Vigilant-Eats
2 packets of Roots powdered vegetables and fruits in blueberry flavor byDeeply Rooted
$50.00 wine gift card
Total Beauty Collection (Beauty products)
An assortment of full and deluxe beauty samples, Total Beauty Collection was one of the boxes that I really enjoyed because I feel like I never have the time as a mom to make myself aware of really good beauty products. I just buy the same thing over and over again. This month was hair products, and they were all from the NelsonJ line! They were also full sized products! I was oober excited about it because my current shampoo leaves a lot of build up in my hair. I love that value that you get in this box. From what I’ve read from other reviews, the value is always much higher than what you pay ($28).
What I received:
the Argan Oil Smoothing Styling Conditioner – full size valued at $15
the Argan Oil Moisture Healing Mask – full size valued at $20
- PLUS the BONUS: Argan Oil 7-in-1 Non Foaming Shampoo – Travel Size
Coupon Code: MOTHERSNICHE – Valid for 10% off the Nelson J Collections and all other collections in stock from now until August 31st, 2013.
Taste Trunk (Gourmet Foods)
$29-This is a subscription box was super fun, and one that my sister would absolutely love. She is a wonderful chef and loves trying new gourmet ingredients! I like that this box comes with information cards and recipes for all the products in the box.
What I received:
USE CODE mothersniche25 for 25% off your first box
Anyone currently subscribe to any of these boxes and Love it? I’m trying to narrow my list down to 1 or 2 that I will continue with!

A HUGE thank you to those of you that shop through our occasional affiliate links that appear on Mother's Niche! It is of no extra cost to you, and I notice and appreciate it each time that it happens (really). Because of you, I might be able to avoid having to cloth diaper my babies, wash and recycle my zip lock baggies, and maybe one day in the future we will be able to afford a lawn mower. A girl can dream, right? See my disclosure policy for more info. Love you all!
