It is spring and I don’t know if it’s just me, or does this time of year just naturally feel like a time to get your home clean and organized. The winter holidays are done and it is the perfect time to de-clutter and deep clean. There have been a lot of colds and stomach bugs going around so getting the house really clean can eliminate some of those germs to keep your family healthy and happy!
I know thinking of de-cluttering and deep cleaning an entire house is super overwhelming. I have made a Spring Cleaning Calendar to make it easier to have a clean house in only 30 days. You literally just take it one day at a time. I am also breaking down each day with a list of to do’s in each daily area. LET’S GO! Read through all the details before beginning because some areas overlap and you don’t want to use your time on something that has its own day later. For example, when cleaning the blinds and curtains in your home, don’t wash the windows because they have their own day later on.

CLEAN HOME IN 30 DAYS BREAK-DOWN
Day 1. FRIDGE- Pull everything out and wash and dry the fridge from top to bottom. Check expiration dates and toss expired and old left-overs. Organize the food as you put it back in. Do the same with the FREEZER!
Day 2. STOVE & OVEN- Scrub the stove top and wash down dials. Wash the oven window and baby oil is a must for stainless steel appliances. Slide out the oven and clean under it (sweep or vacuuming works too) and wash the sides (where everything drips down from the counters). Clean out the oven and wash the rack. Tips for this HERE! Don’t forget the oven drawer too.
Day 3. KITCHEN CUPBOARDS & DRAWERS- Start on one side and work your ways across the kitchen. Pull everything out of the cupboards and drawers. Wipe them out and dry them. Organize the things worth keeping back into the cupboards. Donate unwanted dishes and appliances.
Day 4. MASTER BATH- Empty all the drawers and cupboards, wash and dry them. Get rid of all toothbrushes and swap them for new ones. Put only things back in the drawers and cupboard that are needed. Organize as you put things back in place. Clean drains in the sink, tub and shower. Scrub everything. Sweep and mop. Mirrors and faucets. Don’t forget the medicine cabinet mirror.
Day5. BLINDS & CURTAINS- Remove all curtains and wash and dry them. Hang them straight from the dryer to keep them from getting wrinkled. Find tips for washing blinds HERE! Wipe off the window frames but window washing will happen on day 28.
Day 6. OFFICE AREA- File, dust, declutter. Clean out drawers and organize office supplies. Vacuum.
Day 7. COAT CLOSET- Remove everything. Clean the floor. Get rid of anything not used. Wipe any shelves and stock with hangers and only refill with coats and a shoe organizer.
Day 8. MEDICINE CABINET- Dispose of expired medications. Organize as you put them back into the cupboard. Keep the items used most often in the front for easy access and to keep it organized longer.
Day 9. BASEBOARDS- Get a bucket with hot water and a rag and duck waddle around the house washing every baseboard area in the house. It seems like a lot but it goes surprisingly fast. You will be amazed at how fresh your house will look and feel! Plus you will get a workout in your quads and gluts!
Day 10. ENTERTAINMENT AREA- Remove everything from cupboards and shelves. Wipe surfaces and dry. Organize movies and music. Wipe TV screen (look up the correct way to clean your screen). Dust decor and other surfaces. Here are some tips of repairing scratched DVD’s!
Day 11. PANTRY- Empty, wash, dry. Check expiration dates and when you organize the food and put items back put the food expiring soonest in the front.
Day 12. MICROWAVE & SINK- Remove the glass microwave plate. Soak a in hot water. While still really wet wipe the entire microwave quickly, then close the door for 5 minutes to soak. In the mean time scrub the sink and faucet. Clean out under the sink cupboards if you didn’t get to it in the kitchen cupboard day. Wipe out the microwave now. Everything should clean up with ease!
Day 13. LINEN CLOSET- Empty and organize. If you have worn out towels and wash clothes, tear them up and use them for rags. They are perfect for mopping and messy household projects.
Day 14. KIDS CLOSETS- Empty and check tags for sizes. Only put clothes that fit now or will fit in the next 6 months. Organize shoes the same.
Day 15. BOOKS & GAMES- If you have a game closet like mine you probably have dozens of loose game pieces tossed in closet. Sort through the games and put a those random piece away. Also as you open the games if the game is missing any critical game pieces then get rid of it. When it comes to books I have a really hard time getting rid of them. WE LOVE BOOKS! I always have packing tape with me when I go through my kids books. If they are repairable i will take care of it. If they are totally falling apart I will donate them or use them for DIY Book Projects!
Day 16. DINING TABLE & CHAIRS- If you have kids like mine, they are probably perfect little eaters who never spill the milk that drips down your chair and table legs, right? NOT! There is no such child. So your table and chairs are probably desperate for a scrub down.
Day 17. BATHROOM #1- Scrub the bath from head to toe. Empty and organize the drawers.
Day 18. MASTER CLOSET- Look at each and every piece of clothing. Donate anything that is worn out. Ask yourself- When is the LAST TIME I wore this? If it has been 6 months to a year, or you can’t get remember the last time you wore it, then DONATE IT! Do the same with shoes. Remove and put away anything that doesn’t belong in the closet.
Day 19. TOYS- Sort and organize the toys. I use this to time to get rid of the random, silly toys from kids meals. Get rid of it if its broken or missing pieces. Check out these organizing tips.
Day 20. LAUNDRY ROOM- Sort through all of the laundry cleaning supplies. Clean the floors, vacuum out the main dry vent AND THE BACK VENT. The one that is behind the dryer. It is not the easiest chore but it keep your home safe. SAFETY TIPS HERE! Wipe down the appliances.
Day 21. LIVING ROOM- Clean out the couches, inside, outside, and under. If you have easy clean couches (microfiber or leather) wipe them down and get them cleaned. Wipe done, vacuum or dust any other end tables, lamps, etc… If you have more than one living room clean those this day also.
Day 22. VENTS, SMOKE DETECTORS, LIGHT SWITCHES- And ceiling fans! I couldn’t fit that in the little square on the calendar. Get those fan blades clean, replace batteries in smoke detectors, vacuum vents and air returns, and wipe down dirt on light switches and door knobs.
Day 23. WASH WALLS- This is the day you have been waiting for! ha ha! This is actually much easier than you think. I use a mop and wall washer in one. It works really well, it has a long pole for washing all the way up the wall and rotates. I can do one level of my home in about 20 minutes. I move all the furniture away from the walls before I start. I wash the walls with hot water and a little bit of natural all-purpose cleaner.
Day 24. BATHROOM #2- Scrub the bath from head to toe. Empty and organize the drawers.
Day 25. STAIRS & RAILING- Wash the railing! This will probably disgust you. My railing is always looks fine until I see the rag I used to clean it. YIKES! Make sure to get all the railing. Vacuum and clean the stairs. If you don’t have stairs use this to finish off any of the projects you didn’t finish from the other days.
Day 26. MASTER BED & DRAWERS- Remove bedding, rotate mattress & replace bedding. I somehow always end up rearranging the room. Change is always nice. Go through the drawers and donate unwanted clothing and organize the drawers as you put them back in. Vacuum floors.
Day 27. STORAGE BINS- I have probably 25 storage bins throughout my house and there is so much stuff I know I can get rid of and organize in them. Last time I went through them I was able to donate enough stuff to empty out 5 bins and I filled up my entire trunk twice. It feels so good to get rid of stuff! Because that is all it is, JUST STUFF!
Day 28. WINDOWS INSIDE- When I wash windows I use 2 tbsp vinegar and 4 cups of water in a spray bottle. I use blue shop towels for wiping the windows. They work really well.
Day 29. KIDS BEDS & DRAWERS- Remove bedding, rotate mattress & replace bedding. Go through the drawers and donate unwanted clothing and organize the drawers as you put them back in. Vacuum floors.
Day 30. WINDOWS OUTSIDE- Use the same cleaning solution of 2 tbsp vinegar and 4 cups of water in a spray bottle. But since there are often spider webs and dirt on the outside I first wipe the windows with a wet wash cloth once (sometimes twice). After it looks pretty clean then I will spray it as usual. If you are feeling really ambitious you can remove the window screens and spray them with a hose. Wash the screened window and insert back into window when it is dry.
THAT’S THE CHALLENGE! Can you do it!?! YOU WILL HAVE AN AMAZINGLY CLEAN HOME! Take the Challenge with me and tell me how it went. I would love to hear how much stuff you were able to free yourself from! I LOVE how it feels to simplify and get rid of clutter in my home and life!
