Okay, first off…I am not a fitness blogger. If I were to be perfetly honest, I don't even like exercise most days. But I do like my kids and I want to be healthy and have energy to play and dance and run with them.
So I need to get with it.
I've also been wanting a fun way to get to know others better who visit my blog, and I thought this would be a fun way to connect and motivate each other.
I've noticed that setting really high fitness goals always results in failure (for me). So i want to keep things simple this time. 30 Miles in 30 Days. This can be running, this can be walking, this can be biking, and this can even be swimming.
At home with the kids? Instantly access any of these printable activity bundles to keep them learning!
The point is that when I think of just ONE MILE, it seems realistic. I can do that. Most people can do that. The best part about this challenge is that it's not 1 MILE EVERY DAY. It's 30 miles in 30 days. Why? Because I totally have those days that are just crazy and by the time I finally hit some quiet time at 11:30 P.M., the last thing I am going to do is put on my running shoes. So 30 Miles in 30 Days allows for those kind of days. I will just run an extra mile the next day. All that matters is that by day 30, 30 miles have happened.
THIS STARTS ON SEPT 1st and ANY and ALL are invited to participate. You don't have to be a mom, you don't have to be married, and you don't even have to own a turtle (although that would make you super cool). My sisters and I are going to up the challenge a notch by not eating fast food for the 30 days either (but this is definitely not a requirement, or even a suggestion at that. Just do what works for you)!
Comment below if you want to participate and I will send everyone a reminder right before we start. If we have enough people, we can start a Facebook group to motivate, or we can just stick to cheering each other on via Instagram.
P.S. I may or may not be offering some prizes to those who are motivated and sticking to their goal Prizes always make things fun. 🙂
30 Miles in 30 Days: MAKE IT EASY
Ok, so don't make this super difficult on yourself or it will be more difficult to accomplish.
IF YOU ARE RUNNING: You can keep track of your distance the old-fashioned way by driving 1/2 mile in your car. Run back home and then run back to your car and you have a mile. Or, if you think you will make running a part of your lifestyle, investing in a GPS watch is a really good idea. Otherwise, keep things easy and run with your smartphone. There are lot of apps that will track your mileage and time for you.
IF YOU ARE WALKING: So you can measure your distance the same way as above, or you can get a cheap pedometer and keep track that way. If you don't want to set aside time in your day specifically for exercise (too busy?), then keep track of the average amount of steps you take for the week prior to our challenge. Then, add 2,000 steps each day to get your mile in (2,000 is a mile for the “average” step). So go about doing whatever you are doing, but try to increase your steps in whatever you do.
IF YOU ARE SWIMMING: If your pool lane is 50 meters (there and back) you will swim 16 laps (or 32 times across the pool).
IF YOU ARE DOING A COMBO OF EVERYTHING: you are awesome.
HAS SEPTEMBER 1st passed but you still want to participate? AWESOME! start today and go for a month. Chances are many of us will continue doing this through the holidays, so use the same hashtag when you post pics, or status to Facebook or Instagram: #MothersNiche30in30

I think I’m in! It would be neat to have a private Facebook page, it’s so much nicer to comment when the whole world can’t see. I need to loose some weight and I’m not fond of letting every one see my struggles.
Amy says
I’m in it to win it. I have 3 kids from 8 years to 4 weeks and still have baby weight to lose. Motivation would be awesome! Thanks
Tina M says
Terri! DONE! I will totally create one. That’s a good idea! But I totally don’t share that stuff either 😉 By “Share” on Instagram, I more mean like taking a picture of my shoes and saying “here goes my huff-and-puff mile!” lol 🙂
Terri C says
Great! I can’t wait! I’m off to follow you on instagram ! @c.terri

This seems like a good idea for me. If you live in Utah you can calculate a mile really easily – 8 blocks is one mile.

This is a great idea! In the spring, I was averaging about 50-60 miles a month. But the last couple months have been closer to 5-7!!!! I need to definitely get back at it. Also, for runners, there are plenty of free apps to track your mileage and pace. 🙂
Tina M says
Of course Becky! I forgot to mention that because I hate running with my bulky iPhone, but that would be great for this challenge. What are your favorite apps?
