I never would have classified myself as someone with “dry mouth” until a friend of mine sent me a dry mouth survey to fill out. Up until that point I mostly just noticed dry mouth at night–especially when I am pregnant.
My husband thinks I am ridiculous because pregnancy put me in the habit of keeping like 3 water bottles on my nightstand.
This is totally gross, but sometimes my mouth would get so dry at night that my upper lip would split! I always just kind of dealt with it because I didn’t know there was anything that might help.
When my friend sent me the survey, I realized that my frequent cavities were most likely also a result of my dry mouth (and all this time I have been blaming it on my ancestors).

After I took the survey there was the option for a free sample of toothpaste. My first inclination was to decline because I didn’t want to be conned into anything, and I highly doubted it could make a difference. But there were three things that influenced me to try the free sample:
- My friend’s experience (she said it was awesome)
- The fact that it was free (and she promised me it was)
- The fact that the product didn’t contain contain any Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (drys out the mouth) and the fact that it contains natural enzymes (they had me at the word ‘natural’. I like things natural).
But before I give you my observations of my free sample, here are some possible dry mouth symptoms. thank you WebMD for your always useful information– even if you may have convinced me 37 different times in the past that I might have cancer (anyone with me on that one??)
Symptoms of Dry Mouth
- a sticky dry feeling in the mouth
- sores in the mouth, cracked lips, or split skin in the corners of the mouth
- a dry red tongue
- problems speaking without getting a drink of water
- Hoarseness, dry nasal passages, sore throat
- bad breath
- dry mouth at night while you are sleeping–having water next to you in bed
How I got rid of My Dry Mouth at Night
Okay, back to my story…because I think it’s going to change some serious lives here. So the sample. The free sample that ended up being legit.
The first thing I thought when I tried my sample was…. “hmm..This is different.”
It doesn’t foam up like normal toothpaste because it’s missing that lovely ingredient we like to call Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. So that’s a little bit different.
Honestly, I used my sample and thought, “that was fun but I don’t know that it really is making a difference.”
And then I woke up and realized that I didn’t wake up multiple times in the night completely parched.
and then I noticed that the inside of my upper lip had healed. And those were what I thought were my biggest victories.
Ecept now I own my own full size toothpaste, as well at the mouthwash and gel. And guys…I forgot it when I went out of town a few weeks ago. And I had to use my husband’s normal toothpaste. And it wasn’t until then that I realized just how much I love the stuff. Because not only was my dry mouth back and I was dying for some water in the middle of the night, but I also woke up with really bad breath–something I hadn’t noticed had changed until I went without it.
I could go on, but for your sake I won’t. Moral of the story is I love the stuff and you probably will too. Especially if you have dry mouth. Even if it’s just dry mouth at night (which is what I thought was my case…but it turns out it’s just more noticeable at night).
Anyways. Thought I would pass on my success story. If you are interested, you can get a free sample here, and if you aren’t interested, keep on keeping on my friend!
