One of my sweetest memories as a young girl, about 8 years old, was going to a nursing home with a group of friends and meeting some of the kindest and funniest people. We took a little treat to them and had a list of questions to ask them. I met a tiny, little lady named Chloe. She was so funny! She told my friend and I the silliest things she did as a child. She smiled from ear to ear when she spoke of her sweet husband and how he proposed to her. She showed us pictures of her grand kids and great grand kids. She said there are 63 all together but with a sad tone said they are all busy and she doesn't see most of them very often. She quickly changed the subject with another silly story. Meeting her changed me. I wanted to be like her when I grew up. To laugh and find joy in the small things.
I reflected on my experience with Chloe throughout my teenage life and took a course at age 16 to be a Certified Nurses Assistant. This decision impacted the rest of my life. I worked at a care center and fell in love with kindred spirits I found there. I learned so much in those four years. They are kind, forgiving, generous, thoughtful, spunky, wise, and fun. But most of them are very lonely.

We allow our 4 children to ask for 3 gifts from Santa just as Jesus received 3 gifts from the wise men.
