So I feel like I should start this post with an apology. I’ve taken a short little break from my crafting and creative endeavors over the last week and I’m sorry I haven’t had much to offer. Don’t give up on me.
The truth is I’ve been a little ill since giving birth. And we’re still in the process of figuring it all out. And as much as I’d love to be blogging about a more interesting topic today, sometimes health problems come with motherhood as well. Stupid. I will however make this quick; because who wants to read about someone else’s health problems? Yeah…nobody.
After some blood tests and an elevated Liver function, it was first concluded that I had mono.
But then I started having way too many run-ins with my toilet, and I’m just not really wanting to make this a long-term relationship.

Long story short: after a couple embarrassing moments, and a hospital visit involving some IV therapy, we are now looking at some other options.
One of them being Celiac’s Disease.
And that’s where I need your help. My doctor recommended going gluten-free for a week or two while I wait on test results. And whether I end up being positive or not, I have decided that I will probably try this lifestyle out for a while. Gluten intolerance seems to run in the family and I’ve seen way to many health issues resolved by those who have chosen to go gluten-free.
Here’s the problem. Just the thought of going gluten-free send me into a panic. I love me some gluten. If I thought going off sugar was bad, this is really bad. Life might just be over as I know it. My favorite foods are pizza and burritos, and my favorite desserts are cinnamon rolls and pastries. My favorite snack just happens to be Ritz crackers and cheese (wow, we’re really getting personal now).
Okay, I also like fruits and vegetables, so at least I can still have those. All jokes aside, I know that I will eventually adjust and life really isn’t over. But my main concerns are these:
1. Time. I now need to come up with meals that I can eat to replace the ones that I cannot.
2. Money. It seems that special dietary changes always cost more. I now need to squeeze our already tight grocery-budget a little tighter. Tight like a corset.
3. Going gluten-free sounds like social heartbreak. My first thought when someone tells me they need to go gluten-free is “you poor, poor soul.” We just live in a world of too many fun parties, celebrations and really good restaurants.
I’m trying to think positively. And as I asked for some resources on my Facebook page, I’m learning that there are lots of them out there. At least there are options. At least I can still eat. My doctor printed off a sheet of all the foods I shouldn’t eat, and my first thought was, “um…I’m going to starve.” So… for all you gluten-free goofballs out there, I’d love to here about your experiences! The good the bad and the ugly. I’d love to hear about your favorite blogs, meal ideas, and any other resources you know about to help me keep my sanity.
Because as much as I love my gluten, I love my body more. And if breaking off our relationship gives me a healthy body, I guess I’ll make that sacrifice.
But it won’t be easy.
***P.S. I realize there are a lot of gluten-free products I can buy, but from what I’ve heard from family and others is that a lot of them are overly processed, contain harmful ingredients, and can still make you sick. So for the most part, I’m looking at starting with meals that are naturally gluten-free.
Okay, rant and mumbling over now. Hopefully one of you will win today’s giveaway to make up for it. Oh yeah…I had an article published on Family Share. Feel free to check it out.
