When I was in my awkward teenage years a teacher of mine had confidence cards that she passed out to each of us. We put our name on the back and then passed them around the room to every person. Each person peaked at the name on the back and then wrote something they liked about that person as a list on the front.
When I got mine back it had things on it that I never saw in myself. It read: You are…. so sweet, kind, a good friend, talented, smart, confident, brave, strong and so on. I went home and wept. It meant so much to me to hear that others saw me as the person I wanted to be. I honestly didn’t think I was all of those things but I now had the confidence, and believed, I had the potential to be those things and more. I tried harder to be more kind, a better friend, a stronger person, brave, develop more talents. I hung the card on my mirror for a long time and later made it into a bookmark. I still have it nearly 18 years later.
