As you may have read in my previous post on why you should have your own family holiday, we have a special family holiday that we celebrate right before school starts. It is a day just for our family, where we spend time together partying and playing all day. This involves going out to eat (preferably somewhere new), and ends with a family campout in the back yard (S’mores and all).
This year we went to the Cracker Barrel! My husband knows very well that the fastest way to my heart is through good food, and lucky for him we just discovered a new favorite restaurant. We LOVED the atmosphere and the fun country store, but I loved the food very most. The Cracker Barrel is rated # 5 for places to eat (Via Trip Advisor), which is really good for our area. I was already craving the “homestyle” cooking the next day and ended up really grateful that my plate was big enough to take home leftovers because I got to eat it again for lunch yesterday. I ordered the sampler plate which included meatloaf, chicken & dumplings, ham, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, a side salad and biscuits (now you know why I had leftovers). My kids were just thrilled that they could order pancakes for dinner. I couldn’t convince them to order anything else, but I ended up stealing bites from their plate because the pancakes are really good too! The best part about the whole night was when our check came. Since it was our special family holiday, we let everyone just freely order what they wanted, and our total was still less than $50 for our family of 4. I was totally surprised.

Cracker Barrel Country Store
The Cracker Barrel’s Retail Store was really fun. It’s a great place to find a gifts and products that are fun and unique. Lots of fun toys, clothing, decor, and vintage candies! Something that was fun to find out was that they carry a lot of old-fashioned candy, and some of the brands that we still eat today (milk duds, Junior Mints, Mike & Ikes, etc.) are made using the old formula, meaning no high fructose corn syrup! Why can’t things just stay how they used to be? Super cool that they carry so many fun candies and treats. If you have never been to the Cracker Barrel before, I very highly recommend it! And please, for my sake….don’t leave without a biscuit!
