We all know that time is different when you are pregnant. For everyone else is seems your pregnancy flies by, but when you are the one who is pregnant it seems like an eternity (especially for baby #1). I found that time passed by much more quickly when I busied myself with some fun DIY baby projects. And by having a baby project planned for each week of your pregnancy, you will no longer want the time to fly by because you have a LOT to do! I don’t expect anyone to complete ALL of these DIY projects, but I hope you are inspired to do a few of them! I am NOT a fancy seamstress, so I tried to include some DIY baby projects with little-to-no sewing required! {you’re welcome}.
QUICK TIP: Something else I recommend while you are pregnant, is to keep on eye out for bargains on baby gear. Things add up fast, but there are quite a few ways to get some real bargains while you are pregnant (and it really helps the time fly by). Here are two sites that I check everyday for big discounts on baby gear:
Zulily. This site is awesome for getting deals on everything under the sun when it comes to baby and maternity. see what today’s deals are in the maternity and baby category.
Jane. Another awesome site that I frequent daily. Not only do they have awesome “daily deals,” but you can click on “baby products” and a bunch more deals will come up.
DIY Baby Projects
There’s not EXACTLY 40 DIY baby project ideas, because most people don’t know they are pregnant until at least 5 or six weeks, but here’s enough ideas to keep you busy from the moment you find out you are expecting!
Onesie Appliques (using T-shirt Iron on trasfers)
If you only do one “baby project” I would totally advise burp cloths! We go through these like CRAZY at our house!
crochet beard or if you have a girl, DIY bows and flower clips
If only I knew how to crochet! This thing is ridiculously cute!
Headbands and Clips
This is one tip that I wish I knew with my first! I spent so much money on supplies to make a bunch of different bows and clips. With my second, I realized that I could buy a huge variety of flowers already made on Amazon and just add a clip or elastic. Amazon sells shabby flowers and a huge variety of others (like the ones pictured below) and they usually end up being 50 cents each or less!
Baby Barefoot Sandals or baby boy booties
DIY Baby mittens
Car Seat Blanket Tutorial & Pattern (Update: It has been brought to my attention that placing anything between your baby and the car seat could be dangerous and void your warranty).
Breast Feeding Scarf or Nursing Cover
I currently have nursing covers, but my heart is starting to sway towards the nursing SCARF! How cute that you can wear it and no one would even know it’s for nursing?!
Please Knock, Baby is Sleeping Door Tag
This may not seem like a necessity until the UPS man rings your door bell and wakes the baby that you were praying would take a full nap.
DIY Moby Wrap
Baby Tutu or for a boy, these adorable little man shoes
These tutus are one of the easiest things to make. If you aren’t very craft-savvy, this one is for you! {and me} π
Start Collecting Baby Food Recipes
It may seem silly to start collecting recipes since your baby won’t start eating solids until about 6 months, but TRUST ME…you will be glad you did. Life with a baby gets busy, and if you don’t already have recipes collected you will probably take the easy route and just buy it. That’s what happened to me with baby #1.
Yes, that is a girl below. But these would be awesome for boys!
Learn Some Songs to Sing to Your Baby
Trust me, you will not have time for this in the wee hours of the night when you are exhausted and suddenly realize that you only know ONE lullaby!
Get that nursery closet organized before your little bundle arrives! And believe me, just makes tags for the first 2 years. You’ll be amazed how quickly the time flies!
I don’t sew. Like ever. But somehow I accomplished this one!
A necessity if your baby ends up taking a pacifier. We lost about 15 binkies (no joke) until we finally gave in and bought one of these suckers!
Ahh. These are soooo cute! I don’t think they’re only for boys either!
This is another baby product that I didn’t think I needed until I actually had one!
Coconut oil is awesome for rashes!
These can be expensive, so making them is definitely the wiser option.
Another necessity that you don’t think you need until some random stranger walks up and tries to kiss your baby. True story.
We are in love with these at our house. We only have two kids, but I’m pretty sure we have at least 5 hooded bath towels!
And in case you make it to your 3rd trimester and don’t feel like making ANYTHING at all, here is an awesome tip I found on another blog for buying baby headbands for less than a $1. This advise is GOLDEN. I spent way too much on the exact same headbands!
That’s all for now! If you are pregnant, here are some posts you will want to read before baby comes:

Oh, this post is cuteness overload! I don’t know how I missed you and your cute babe at BYBC. I am usually the resident baby stealer. Gotta get my baby snuggles in any way I can! π
Tina M says
Kara! I’m sad I missed you! I would have loved for you to steal her for a little bit π
Andrea says
I hate to even go here because it’s so dang cute, BUT car seat manufacturers recommend not adding anything to the car seat that was not included with the car seat. So the baby car seat blanket could be dangerous and affect the safety of the car seat. You may want to check into that! Thanks for the list!
Tina M says
Thanks Andrea! I’ll go back and mention that it take it out!
Sanne says
Hi Tina, would you mind if I use a couple of your pics, and link to your article from my blog? I really think this is the cutest list, wish I had seen it while Γ was pregnant π

My husband’s Grandma is so guilty of going up to random babies and touching them. I cringe every time and give the mom an apologetic look. What can I do? She’s in her 90s. Great post!

Heads up, I’m on a kindle and I can’t read any of this article because the ad takes up half the page
