Cleaning Stainless Steel Appliances and Making Them Smudge Proof

I recently discovered the very best trick for cleaning stainless steel appliances and I still can’t believe it’s as easy as it is. Not only is this a great hack for cleaning stainless steel, but it’s also wonderful for making your stainless steel appliances fingerprint and smudge-proof! Meaning….it shines them and it lasts for a very, very long time!

Cleaning Stainless Steel the EASY Way!

When my husband and I bought our new fridge, I noticed fingerprint-resistant stainless steel appliances, but didn’t want to spend the extra money, so we went with regular stainless steel. I soon regretted my choice and got tired of cleaning stainless steel everyday! I couldn’t believe how quickly we had fingerprints on the fridge and it looked so messy if I didn’t clean off the fingerprints everyday.

After a friend mentioned that cleaning stainless steel with olive oil would repel fingerprints, I didn’t believe that it would actually work, but I gave it a try anyway!

How to Clean Stainless Steel Fridge (and other stainless steel appliances)

I say “cleaning stainless steel” but what I’m really doing is polishing. And the polish is what repels fingerprints! You will need to clean your stainless steel before you polish though, and here’s how:

STEP 1: Clean your fridge with Stainless steel cleaner or even just vinegar if you want to use natural cleaner

Step 2: Dab a clean cloth with some olive oil and run it along your stainless steel until it’s been buffed along the entire surface. You will then use the dry part of the towel to soak up any excess oil.

Repeat this process weekly, or as needed for a smudge-resistant fridge, and a happy mom! And now that you have tackled this, you are ready for our one-touch rule for keeping a clean house!

I have now discovered that my dog loves the taste of the olive oil. He follows after me licking my fridge, stove and dishwasher…not sure what to do about that.

Any oil works… coconut, almond, jojoba. Personally love coconut.

I tried it and it works! My refrigerator no longer has streaks from the glass of water or ice that spills over sometimes. Thank you!

Works so well. I’m so impressed that something I had in my pantry worked so much better than something I have purchased in the past. I’m so happy I came across your pin!

I find using the oil makes the dust stick to the stainless and creates a build up over time even if I polish it after the application. It’s hard enough trying to keep oil off my kitchen cabinets from deep fried cooking, I don’t care to purposely apply it to my stainless steel appliances.
