Did you know that today is National Dress Up Your Pet Day? What about Cuddle Up Day on the sixth of January? And did you make it a point to celebrate on January third? It was the Festival of Sleep! I love any excuse to make a celebration out of an ordinary day and that’s why I love the special and unique holidays that aren’t as commonly known. Not only are they fun to celebrate but they create family bonding and add to a child’s sense of belonging. So gather the family around this Saturday night, make various kinds of flavored popcorn, and enjoy a movie together because it’s National Popcorn Day!
Want to create your own holiday? There’s more about that here and here, but don’t feel like you need to make things official with congress just to have an excuse to celebrate. Create a “holiday” unique to your family, invite your friends and neighbors and make it a point to celebrate it every year.
These are the kind of memories that kids remember for years. Make it a point to surprise them and turn ordinary days into creative celebrations!
