How to Make Flower Clips

After the birth of my first, I had no idea how to make flower clips and found myself purchasing them at a local boutique.  After watching a few friends make them I couldn’t believe how easy and cheap they are to make!  So today’s post is on how to make flower clips, and I’ve picked a few really easy ones to get you started!  *Bookmark or pin this post for future reference as I will add more tutorials to it over time.*

How to Make Flower Clips 101

How to Make Flower Clips

If you want to make the easiest of easiest, start with buying some decorative trim at your local sewing store.

At home with the kids? Instantly access any of these printable activity bundles to keep them learning!

You’d be surprised how many cute flower clips are simply made from gluing some decorative trim together.  For example, all 3 of these were made from trim.

How to Make Flower Clips out of Ribbon, Lace and Trim:

Some people glue the ribbon/trim to a round piece of felt while they are gluing, but I prefer to just glue the felt on afterwards.  You would then either glue on an alligator clip or elastic.  The elastic I used is from Fleuriste Supply.  They were recommended to me by a friend of mine that makes bows for a living, so I asked them if they would send me some samples for this post.  Their prices are awesome and I love that you can buy the elastic by the yard in all types of colors!  I have yet to find a local place where I can do this.

RUFFLE HEADBAND TUTORIAL

The ruffle headband is another simple one.  You can use felt, or other fabrics of your choice.

1.  Cut our your circles.  I believe I cut 8-10, but if you aren’t using felt it would be more since felt is thick.

2.  Fold them in half, and then in half again.

3.  Glue them on.  You can glue them on in a circular shape, or you can add extra to the sides to make it look like the one below:

Fabric flowers and Ribbon flowers:

This next one was made to go along with my onesie dress tutorial.  You can find video instructions for making it on that post.  The flower on the left was made from fabric and the one on the right was made out of ribbon.  These are also super easy.

Satin Flower Clip

This next one is also super easy.  Cut circles out of satin (gradually getting smaller as you go), burn the edges with a lighter, and then glue them together!  SO simple.  You can then add pearls, a leaf, whatever you want.

how to make flower clipsI’m curious how many of you already know how to make flower clips, and how many of you buy them like I used to?  If you make them, what are you favorite ones to make?

These are so cute! Another design is pick a fun fabric strip, thread a running stitch through one side, then tighten until you have a circle of ruffle fabric. Stack a bunch and then glue. Super cute!
