Happy December 1st everyone! This is truly one of the happiest times of the year! To help brighten everyone's holidays this year, I am doing a series titled the “12 Days of a Christ-Filled Christmas,” and have invited other bloggers to join along! Come back to the blog everyday for the first 12 Days of December, for a fun reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. May your homes be filled with His light and love this Christmas!
12 Days of a Christ-Filled Christmas: DAY 1
Here is a service idea to help children look outward at Christmas time….instead of being so focused on what they are going to get Combine this idea with the KINDNESS ELVES and you will have the most memorable Christmas yet.
You need:
- something to use as a manger {ie. a box or a basket}
- ½ inch wide strips of yellow paper (Or you could just use straw and lay a piece down every time a kind act is accomplished
Towards the first of December gather your family around and discuss the meaning of the scripture Matthew 25:40, “…Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Explain that your family is going to do kind things for other people. Each time a family member does a service for another person, they will write it down on a yellow strip of paper and place it in the manger.
The goal is to get plenty of “straw” to lay in the manger so on Christmas morning the Baby Jesus has a soft bed.
You may have to do some prodding to keep this activity alive all Christmas Season…but you will see your children begin to notice and look for service opportunities.
As a follow up, you may want to discuss with them the life of the Savior and all he does for us. By doing kind things we are serving God and acting like Him, too.
May your manger overflow….Merry Christmas!

Hi, my name is Amy Morgan. I have a wonderful husband and six children. I have been a Stay-at-Home Mom for 18 years…which, I love, by the way. My “job” has been to figure out how make positive memories and to figure out how to raise a family on a budget.
I love the Savior, and I hope Christmas time will be spent looking to Him.
