I mentioned previously how important it is to find time to exercise as a parent. Well… with the health issues that have been plaguing my life lately, there was one thing that I was most discouraged about: I signed up for a triathlon several months ago (stupid!), and I had been unable to train like I wanted to. But I was already signed up for the race.
So last week as the race day got closer and closer, I went back and forth: “I’m not going to do it.” “No, I want to do it.” “I can’t do it.”
Well….I DID IT!

Since I’ve only been on a run twice since giving birth, I told myself I would drop out if I needed to, but I at least wanted to go and see what it was all about. I have had a goal to do a triathlon FOREVER, and I picked the perfect one to be my first! TriathaMOM is a race specifically for women, and it brings moms of all shapes and sizes and of all levels of fitness. The feeling throughout the entire race was very positive and motivating. Everyone was trying their best, but supporting each other at the same time. I’ve done a couple 10K’s and a half-marathon before, but this was the most supportive race I have done yet.
I totally ended up walking over half of the running portion, but I couldn’t help but finish. And crossing that finish line was the greatest feeling. I’m totally converted to triathlons and I will definitely be doing it again next year. But next time I’m going to train so that the bike portion doesn’t kick my trash. Ha! I was sooo tired after MILE 1! And I will confess….when I approached the giant hill…a swear word might have escaped my mouth.
And that doesn’t happen very often.
Here’s a photo that my husband took the night before when I went to pick up my packet. He told to make a straight face. I guess he wanted me to look hardcore; but if you saw me at the finish line you would know that I was NOT HARDCORE.
