with diaper changes every few hours. I would wait what felt like all day for those 10-minute intervals. During that time we were able to place his tiny hand, the size of the top of my thumb, between our fingers for a few moments.
Recommendations to Offer Support to NICU Parents
- The same goes for when the baby has finally come home. I knew multiple families that after celebrating their baby’s graduation from the NICU, found themselves back at the hospital the following week. Most parents will still have their baby in a lock-down mode until they feel comfortable introducing them to more people. Continue to support their efforts. Remember they went through a large ordeal to bring their child home and are only trying to avoid further risks.
