I’ll admit, laundry is not my favorite thing in the world. But even worse than laundry is ruined clothes because I didn’t take proper care of my clothes and stains. I can assure you from experience that if you ignore stains and just keep washing them the same way everytime, the stains will become permanent. The pit stains in my whites are calling for mercy! (TMI?)
I have recently turned a new leaf and decided that it’s much easier to keep my whites WHITE (through proper care), than to make year-old stains white again (I plead guilty).
So here’s a few tips, and if you have a few of your own, I would LOVE to hear them!

1. Sort clothes. Don’t wash your colors with your whites. Yes, even on lazy days. Just sort your clothes. This is one step I don’t struggle with because I am way too OCD to throw a colored shirt in with my whites. If this is you, you should stop. One day you will experience the sad truth of a bleeding, colored garment leaking into all of your whites and making it’s mark on your entire load of laundry.
2. Wash quickly after staining. It’s much easier to wash a stain if you get to it as soon as you can. If it’s a bad stain, pre-treat and soak it. Sadly, this is where my laziness comes in to play. I have had way too many times that I have waited a week to finally get to a stained shirt. Also, if your clothing comes out of the wash and still has a stain, don’t put it in the dryer! Re-treat the stain and put it back in the wash.
3. Read the tags on your clothes to know what tempurature to wash on, as well as whether you should place them in the dryer. Guilty again. I’ve learned that if a tag says “hand wash only” that this translates directly to “DO NOT BUY.” 🙂
4. Use a good bleach. I never use bleach because I am sensitive to the smell and I don’t like how easily it spills (especially if I get it on my fingers). However, I just recently started using Clorox UltimateCare Bleach (available at Target) and I really like it.
I decided to buy it after I saw that it was getting all 5-star reviews and everyone was raving about it. Because it’s a liquid gel, it doesn’t spill so easily and you can pour it directly onto your clothes. It also has a really gentle scent, which is fabulous for me, and my whites came out brighter and whiter! If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a new favorite at our house!
