Many of my friends have come to me when they became pregnant with their first and said, “ok. I'm ready for you to teach me. How do you dress your kids on a budget? How did you get all the deals?”
Kids are cute, but they can also be costly 🙂 Don't make the mistake of going broke on their wardrobe! Here are a few things that have helped us save hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars on kid's clothes.
How I save Money on Kid's Clothes
Trade. Do you have 2 girls and all of a sudden you are pregnant with a boy? Find someone in the opposite position and trade clothes with them! This is a great way to start out your kid's wardrobe!

Cousin Store. My friends sometimes laugh at me when they ask where I got such-and-such outfit for my kid, because often I respond with a smile, “I got it at the cousin store!” If you have siblings with kids, that's a great place to get clothes! My sister-in-law has a girl a little bit older than mine. She has been so kind to pass A TON of really cute stuff on to us and we have been so grateful. If you aren't in such a lucky family position, ask around! There is ALWAYS someone wanting to get rid of kid's clothing. Posting a simple Facebook message might just be your key to success!
Consignment stores. (Kid-toKid, etc.). A lot of times I feel like these are too overpriced for USED clothing, but if you shop the sales, you can get some really good deals.
Classifieds. This is another place I have scored some amazing deals. My key to success is to never agree to buy until you have seen it! I would usually say, “Hey I saw that you are selling some kid's clothes in the size I need, can I come take a look?” Often I would also ask the question, “Will you give me a deal if I buy more than 20 items?” By asking that last question, I have often purchased stuff for 25-50 cents a piece (even shoes)! And most of it was in really good condition!
End of season. Look ahead! I often shop for the next season a year a head of time. This will save you SO MUCH money! Since fall is starting, I went to the stores a few weeks ago and stocked up on some summer clothes. I bought some really cute stuff for a little over a dollar! If you buy clothes online, MAKE SURE that you go through your Ebates account and get cash back on everything you buy! You would be surprised how quickly this adds up.
Find Quality clothes, but with great prices. I am a HUGE fan of the Garanimals brand at Walmart. They are always in style and still nice to my wallet! Garanimals clothing is carefully designed to provide babies and kids with affordable fashion and comfort while guaranteeing quality, value, and ease of shopping to parents. Garanimals is made for newborns as well as young children (up to 5T) and is sold exclusively at Walmart stores and at Walmart.com.
I recently bought some really cute ruffle shirts for my toddler and they were only a few bucks! Hoorah for Garanimals for making really cute clothing without jacking up the price and ripping us off! Anyone seen their commercials??
