Turning Baby Clothes into Doll Clothes

tutorials for turning baby clothes into doll clothes!

I'm excited to join you at Mother's Niche today.  Usually you can find me at xoxo Grandma showing off my latest project.  Today, I'm going to show you how to turn baby clothes into doll clothes.  These are perfect projects for beginner sewers because they have small seams and your doll won't complain if they don't fit perfectly.

To get started, you'll need the following: scissors, seam ripper, thread, a needle or a sewing machine and baby clothes of course.

At home with the kids? Instantly access any of these printable activity bundles to keep them learning!

Project #1: Baby Top into a Doll Dress

Need: A baby shirt preferably one with a 1/2+” casing along the neck.

I decided the appliqued apple was too large for this doll so I unpicked it.  Hopefully you won't need to do that step. Follow the steps in these images:

Project #2:  Onesie into a Doll Sized Maxi

Need:  Infant onesie – I used a 6 month size

Follow the steps below:

To finish up this maxi dress, add a little velcro to both sides of the back opening (see step 7). Turn your dress right side out, iron it and be amazed that you can make doll clothes without spending hardly anything.

Are you ready to dig out those old baby clothes and see what you can do with them?

Trust me, your child will think you are amazing when you tell them that their “new” doll clothes were once things they wore.

To make it easier for you to try these projects, the above project instructions are available as downloads: Baby Top Into a Doll Dress and Onesie into a Maxi.

I'm six-foot tall mother of three and I'm enjoying the view! I'm currently fighting a battle with Lyme disease and am determined to come out victorious. I enjoy warm summer rain, peanut butter everything, having dance parties with my husband and kids, natural remedies and healthy living. Most days I'm just looking for another excuse to avoid the piles of laundry.
