We’ve had severe flooding in our town (twice now), and when it first happened several years ago, I realized I had not prepared my family at all for an emergency. And although the chances are pretty high that you will see a major natural disaster in your lifetime, emergency preparedness is not JUST for natural disasters. MOST FOOD STORAGE IS MADE CHEAP
A lot of them are just okay. And the shelf life that they promise is a joke because of the ingredients that are in them. Your food storage can only keep as long as your least stable ingredient. A lot of these food storage companies are filling their food with cheap ingredients in order to pay their bottom line. Cheap oils like canola, vegetable, sunflower, and soy bean oil are used a lot because their cheap, but they also go rancid more quickly….which means there’s no way they are going to be good 20 years from now!
THE PROBLEM WITH MEAT
Another problem, is that many companies use MEAT in their meals. Meat is awesome, but no matter how you package it, animal protein will start to break down within 5-7 years, effecting the food it’s packaged with.
